back2village is a small editorial site, run as a personal project. We do not sell your data, do not run advertising, and try to collect as little information as possible. This page describes what we collect and why, and the third parties we use to operate the site.
What we collect
Nothing, unless you give it to us. Specifically:
- Email address — only if you fill in a newsletter or "watch this village" form, or write to us. We use it to send you the content you signed up for. You can unsubscribe at any time from any email we send you.
- Form submissions — if you fill in "Suggest a village" or "Contribute a village page," we receive whatever you wrote (name, email, message). We use it only to read your suggestion and reply.
- Anonymous traffic data — via Cloudflare Web Analytics: which pages were viewed, the referring site, the country and device type. This is aggregated and does not identify you. No cookies are set.
- Hosting / security logs — Cloudflare, our hosting provider, keeps short-term server logs (IP address, request, response code) for security and abuse prevention. We do not access these routinely.
Third parties we use
The site relies on a small number of external services:
- Cloudflare — hosts the site, provides DNS, and runs our anonymous web analytics. Cloudflare may briefly retain server logs for security purposes. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- GitHub — hosts the site's source code. GitHub does not receive any personal data about visitors to the live site.
As we add features (email newsletter, contact forms), we will list the relevant providers here and update the "last updated" date.
How long we keep things
- Email subscribers: until you unsubscribe.
- Form submissions and emails to us: indefinitely, unless you ask us to delete them.
- Cloudflare analytics: aggregated and retained per Cloudflare's defaults; not personally identifiable.
Your rights
Under GDPR you have the right to:
- Ask what data we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct or delete it.
- Withdraw consent (e.g., unsubscribe from emails).
- Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.
To exercise any of these, email entrery.kn@gmail.com. We aim to respond within two weeks.
Cookies
We do not set any cookies. Cloudflare may set technical cookies for security purposes (e.g., bot mitigation); these are not used for tracking and do not require consent.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when we add new tools or change what we collect. Significant changes are announced to email subscribers. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the latest revision.
